Serve
Service is fundamental to the Christian Life. There are many ways to serve within the church, and listed below are a few of the projects in which we participate to serve outside our building, in the name if Jesus Christ.
BROWN BAG BLESSINGS
Three times each year, we collect food for a local food pantry at We Care, We Share Ministries in Lorain. We pass out brown bags and ask our friends to fill them with non-perishable food and personal care items. We collect the bags the following Sunday, and a team delivers them to We Care, We Share on Monday morning. If you are looking for an easy way to get involved with service, be watching to get your brown bags in September, January and May!
MISSION TRIPS
Each year, Avon UMC sends a group of youth and a group of adults on a mission trip, serving the needs of either local or less-local communities. Typically these trips take place in the summer, and we have served in a number of capacities. In 2023, our youth served at the Toledo University, and the adults ventured to rural Kentucky. FEED THE HUNGRY
Twice each month, a group from our church travels to St. Andrew’s church in Elyria to serve a full dinner meal to struggling members of the community. The church purchases, cooks, serves and cleans up after the meal on the First Wednesday and Second Monday of each month. If you are interested in helping out, contact the church office.
SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM
Each summer, we partner with other churches in our area to provide lunch and activities to kids (toddlers to age 18) who might otherwise go hungry at lunchtime when the school year is over. We prepare food, games and crafts, and some local businesses join in to provide a fun experience for the kids for one week, Monday - Friday from 11am-1pm! To participate, contact the church office.
ALL-CHURCH WORK DAYS
Throughout the year, our Trustees work hard to make sure our building is in good working order, and that the building and grounds are neat and welcoming. Typically these work days are the first Saturday of the month, but there are exceptions. If you like to putter around and clean things up, feel free to join us! Work days typically fall on the first or second Saturday of each month. Check the Calendar to be sure!
