DIRECTOR of Children's Ministry

Purpose of the Position:

The Director of Children’s Ministry is tasked with overseeing and implementing the educational system to help children follow Jesus Christ with their lives.


  • On average, about 20 hours a week with at least 4 hours on Sunday morning
  • Up to two weeks of vacation per year, including up to two Sundays

Qualifications Requirement

  • High School Degree
  • College Degree preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to work with MS Office
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to clearly communicate
  • Core understanding of the Bible

  • A Christ like spirit of acceptance, warmth and conviction. This includes the need for a consistent devotional life. Familiarity with and appreciation for the United Methodist history and theology.

Priorities, Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Chair the Kids Ministry Team and coordinate regular meetings.
  • Oversee the budget for the children’s ministry.
  • Oversee and administer the Child Protection Policy for the church.
  • Select and order curriculum for Sunday School, making sure it is relevant and engaging.
  • Recruit, train and coordinate with Sunday School Teachers.
  • Oversee the classrooms and make sure they are stocked with materials needed.
  • Coordinate topics, materials and leadership for the children’s sermon during worship.
  • Plan and direct key children’s event for the church; VBS, Christmas program, Trunk or Treat and Easter program.
  • Coordinate 1-2 outreach events for parents and/or children in our community (special speakers, parents’ night out, special kid events).
  • Write articles to share relevant information for monthly newsletter.
  • Advertise children’s ministry events and activities in a timely manner.
  • Assist with confirmation classes as needed.
  • Work in partnership with the Childcare Coordinator, to align ministries and needs together.
  • Regular attendance at Staff Meetings.Other duties related to the position as assigned by the Pastor.


  • The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Pastor and is subject to oversight by the Leadership Team.
