Emily Terrell, Childcare Coordinator

What is your role at the church and what does that mean you actually do? I am the childcare coordinator, which means that I work with the volunteers that work in the nursery and the parents of the children in the nursery to create a safe, friendly, and fun environment for children in the nursery while their parents are in church.

Tell me about your family… My parents are Stacy and Michelle Terrell and I have one sister, Jillian. We also have two dogs, Sophia and Gabby.

What are your hobbies/recreational interests?  I love to read and go on walks. I love anything that involves music, I play the piano, and I love to sing and act too.

What is your favorite quote? “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” – Ephesians 4:1-2

What was your first job?  My first job I still have. I am on the wait staff at Kendal at Oberlin, a job I started right before I turned 16.

What is your proudest moment?  Paying for my car with money I earned from my job.

What was your childhood ambition?  I wanted to be a pediatrician. I loved the idea of helping kids heal.

What has God been teaching you lately?  To let go of the control I like to have over my life and let Him work. I tend to like to be in complete control over what my life looks like, but I know that without God being the central focus of my life, I won’t get to the potential life God has in store for me.

What is your guilty pleasure?  Ice Cream

What is your favorite part of your job?  I love working with kids. I have always wanted to work in a career with kids, so being the childcare coordinator gives me that opportunity. Being able to begin that love of the church at a young age for these kids while being in the nursery is something I am so excited to see grow.

What do you love about Avon UMC?  The community. I grew up going to Avon UMC, and that is something that I have always loved about this church. It is a community that is welcoming, loving, and completely devoted to Gods plan for the church and Gods plans in each other’s lives.
