David Gaddis, Contemporary Worship Leader

What is your role at the church and what does that mean you actually do? I’m the Worship Leader for the Contemporary Service. My role is to lead a team of musicians as well as the church into worship of God through modern music.

Tell me about your family… I’m the middle child in my family, I’ve got and older brother and sister as well as a younger brother.

What are your hobbies/recreational interests? I’m an avid gamer, I also love photography as well as creating short films and animations.

What is your favorite quote? “If you fell down yesterday stand up today.” – HG Wells

What was your first job?  I shelved books at the local library. I think we were called Pages.

What is your proudest moment?  I once served as a youth pastor and a student who had struggled throughout her life handed me the razor she used to cut herself and told me she didn’t need it anymore. I dunno if I can take any personal pride in that, but it’s by far my favorite moment.

What was your childhood ambition?  I wanted to be a Supreme Court Justice, like my hero at the time, Thurgood Marshall.

What inspires you?  Stories, whether they are fictional or true.

What has God been teaching you lately?  To let go of the control I like to have over my life and let Him work. I tend to like to be in complete control over what my life looks like, but I know that without God being the central focus of my life, I won’t get to the potential life God has in store for me.

What is your guilty pleasure?  Too many comedies to name.

What is your favorite part of your job?  Haven’t discovered that yet. Just getting ready to get started.

What do you love about Avon UMC?  I’ve only been to one service so far, but the people were so warm and genuinely glad to see me.
