The Children's Ministry of Avon United Methodist Church reaches God's littlest disciples. The ministry exists to reach children for the Lord, equip families to grow in Christ together and to have fun doing it. We meet Sunday mornings during both services. Children participate in songs, videos, objects lessons, classroom learning and other methods to keep them interested in learning. Periodically there are other children's events including an Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, Fall Fun Night, and Breakfast with Santa. When you arrive on Sunday mornings please meet us in the Children's Ministry space inside our church Gathering area to register your child and meet our ministry team.
Held each Sunday morning during both our 9:00 service and 10:30 service, Kid's Church is a place for kids to learn about God in a relevant and fun way. Little ones learn about God in simple ways with crafts and age-appropriate, preschool lessons. Older kids, in Kindergarten to fifth grade, are encouraged to join us for fun of their own. Using a brand-new curriculum, the kids learn from “agricultural time-travelers” known as the Truth Trackers how the Old Testament and the New work together to teach us life-changing truths. They won’t want to miss a week as there is a new incentive program that encourages learning through “heartwork”, not “homework”.
Our April 4th Easter Egg-stravaganza at the church is cancelled, but the fun and family connection is not! We have created a fun Easter activity your family can enjoy while still exercising appropriate social distance from others:
Come to church anytime on Saturday, April 4, between 10:00 am - 12:00pm(or until bags are gone) and collect one prize bag per child in your family. Inside are prizes, a craft, plastic eggs and wrapped candy for your own at-home egg hunt, and a family activity that helps all members of the family remember the hope that Holy Week points us to. We've got Easter fun "in the bag," along with instructions for the activities, and we invite you to share photos of your family fun on the AUMC KidMin Facebook page! #AUMCEggstravaganza
Vacation Bible School or VBS is traditionally one of the biggest summer church events for children. Held mid-summer in the evening, our VBS program will not disappoint. We use new and exciting programming and learn about God in developmentally appropriate terms for kids from aged three (potty trained) to fifth grade. Our volunteers and parents look forward to this week all year long! Registration goes live on our site a month in advance.
Our 2019 VBS program was "ROAR - God's Wild About You!," and our 2020 theme will be the "Rocky Railway!"
Trunk-or-Treat is always a great time, and fun for the whole family! Thank you to all our Trunk Hosts and volunteers, and to everyone who brought out their kids (and their kids' friends) to enjoy all the games, candy and crafts! Not just for little kids or families with kids, this event is for everyone, and we can't wait until next year!
Each year, we encourage the Christmas spirit in our families with a special event aimed at our littlest angels. Good food, fun crafts and a visit from the Jolly ol’ Elf and the Mrs. promise something for all ages. Our 2019 event was an evening aboard the Polar Express! Keep your eyes on this space for details about our 2020 event next winter...
Parents' Night Out
Hey, Mom and Dad! Are you looking for an evening off (from the kids, at least!)? Watch this space for selected Saturdays to drop the kids off at church from 5 - 8pm, where they will enjoy pizza, games and plenty of fun, and you're on your way! Suggested donation: $10/kid.
Stuck for something to do, now that you don't have kids in tow on a Saturday night? We will strive to provide an evening of entertainment with friends from church (5:30-7:30pm) for a minimal cost!
