What is your role at the church and what does that mean you actually do? I am the Treasurer. My role is to manage the church finances to the best of my ability, record the payroll, prioritize and pay the bills, print the financial reports for the Finance Chairperson and be accountable to the pastor and Finance Committee.
Tell me about your family… I was married for 36 years to my husband, Dr. Johnny A. Brawner, before he passed away October 5, 2012. We have four adult children, Jennifer, Johnny Jr., Alison and Carolyn. Johnny and his wife Suvita have given me a grandson Krishna and a granddaughter Jasmine.
What are your hobbies/recreational interests? I love to swim and cook. My husband and I used to travel a lot, which I enjoyed.
What is your favorite quote? Any successful relationship must always be a two way street.
What was your first job? I worked as a car-hop at the Eat’n Park in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.
What is your proudest moment? Graduating from nursing school. Then, marrying my husband five months later.
What was your childhood ambition? I always wanted to be a nurse like my favorite aunt, my dad’s sister Ruth.
What inspires you? Having a sense of accomplishment. Feeling loved and needed. My family and friends.
What has God been teaching you lately? Patience. Acceptance. Tolerance.
What is your guilty pleasure? The Young and the Restless. I have been watching it since 1974.
What is your favorite part of your job? Feeling appreciated and connected to the wonderful staff here.
What do you love about Avon UMC? I love the people here. They are genuine and sincere. When my grief was the most intense, I felt an amazing amount of support from the members. Over the past three years since then, I have been able to forward that support to others in need of understanding.
